The Toyota plants in both Kentucky and Indiana are getting some major investments this year.

Toyota Motor North America Inc. announced $1 billion will be split between the Kentucky and Indiana plants to "better meet diverse customer needs in the United States."

The plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, will see $800 million to better prepare the facility for production of their battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and to increase production of the Camry and the RAV4.

The plant in Princeton, Indiana will get the rest of the money so the facility can increase its production of the Grand Highlander.

This follows Toyota's February announcement where the company said it will manufacture the all-electric 2027 Highlanders in Georgetown.

The Highlander will be the first three-row BEV Toyota will build for the U.S. market, according to the company. The vehicle will be available in two grades, the XLE and the Limited, and can serve as a mobile power source with vehicle-to-load technology.

The 2027 Highlander will be the fourth BEV in Toyota's lineup; the other three are the Toyota bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR models, according to Toyota. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) has not yet been announced but sales are expected to begin in late 2026.

This newest announcement is part of the company's five year investment plan, according to Toyota. The company pledged to invest $10 billion into the United States over the next five years.
